The initial great-circle bearing from 51.5074°, -0.1278° to the Kaaba coordinate is 118.99° from true north (ESE).

Formula

How it is calculated

bearing = atan2(sin Δλ, cos φ₁·tan φ₂ − sin φ₁·cos Δλ)
  1. Enter WGS84-style decimal latitude and longitude.
  2. Compute the initial great-circle bearing to 21.4225° N, 39.8262° E.
  3. Normalize the result to 0–360° from true north.

What the result means

The value is an initial spherical bearing from true north, not a magnetic-compass reading. Local magnetic declination and physical alignment are outside the model.

All decision-bearing times, offsets or coordinates remain visible inputs. The page does not look up a hidden local convention, mosque timetable or current location.

Limits and local confirmation

A spherical bearing is a planning estimate. Coordinate accuracy, true-north alignment, local declination, buildings and terrain can affect practical use.

For worship planning, confirm the applicable times, method and interpretation with the local mosque or authority you follow.

Questions about this calculation

Does this Qibla-direction calculator choose prayer times for me?

No. It uses only the timetable values or coordinates you enter. Obtain prayer times and method guidance from a trusted local timetable, mosque or authority.

Does it store my values or location?

No. The arithmetic runs in your browser and the form does not submit coordinates, times or results to a server.

What happens when an interval crosses midnight?

Clock-interval tools move forward on a 24-hour clock, so an end time earlier than the start is treated as occurring on the following calendar day.
